Emulsifiers are substances that ensure the creation of emulsions from immiscible liquids. To stabilize emulsions are used emulsifiers in two types of systems - for emulsions of direct and reverse type. Uniformity and stability of composition are fundamental factors of  success of cosmetic product. Molecules of emulsifier create a layer between the phases, not allowing the formulation to flake. Solubilizers help to increase the solubility of poorly soluble substances in water. With their help you can adjust the viscosity of the solution, release the products in other forms (liquid state instead of solid), to develop new formulations, to improve the quality of cosmetic products.

The activity of emulsifiers is complex, it is based on the ability of surface-active substances (SAS) reduce the energy required for the creation of free surface for phase division. Synthetic emulsifiers are produced, for example on the basis of ethylene oxide. They include, in particular, microgel and polysorbates. As emulsifiers for emulsion “water in oil” are used monoglyceric ether. Emulsifiers, used in cosmetics, must ensure the stability of the product, must not react with other components, cause irritation of the skin,. Application rates of emulsifiers depend on the formulation, the quality of raw materials and the expected result in a finished product, but shall remain within the recommended range (for example, 0,1-10,0%). It is not recommended the multiple excess of dosages, as this may have a negative impact on the properties of emulsions, as well as to change significantly the viscosity of the product.
